Abiodun Emmanuel AYODELE is a Professor in the Department of Botany, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He has over thirty three years’ teaching experience at the University level. His area of research covers Plant taxonomy and systematics, Biodiversity conservation and ethnobotany. He has over 100 publications consisting of a book, peer reviewed journal articles, technical reports and refereed conference proceedings. Professor Abiodun Ayodele has successfully supervised 7 Ph.D. theses in Plant Taxonomy and Systematics, over 50 M.Sc. dissertations and many B.Sc. students’ projects. He has served in various capacities in the University of Ibadan, Ibadan. He was a member of Senate of the University of Ibadan from 1998 to 2010 and from 2012 to Date. He was Sub-Dean (Biological and Earth Sciences), Faculty of Science (2002-2004), member, Zoological Garden Finance Committee (2015-2019), Coordinator, Botany Unit, Department of Botany and Microbiology (2009/2010), Director, University of Ibadan Botanical Gardens (2004-2014) and Curator, University of Ibadan Herbarium (1996-2016 and 2023 to date). Professor Abiodun Ayodele served as Head of the Department of Botany, University of Ibadan, Ibadan from 2016 to 2019 and Dean, Faculty of Science from 2019 to 2021. He was the Chairman of University of Ibadan Multidisciplinary Central Research Laboratory (MCRL) until his appointment as Director, Academic Planning in April, 2024. Consequently, he is a member of the Committee of Directors of Academic Planning of Nigerian Universities (CODPANU).
Professor Ayodele has served as External Examiner at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and as External Assessor for Professorial positions in many Universities and Research Institutes within and outside Nigeria. He is reviewer to many journals both within and outside Nigeria. Professor Ayodele was a Visiting Scholar of the Third World Academy of Sciences/Chinese Academy of Sciences twice to Kunming Institute of Botany, Kunming, China in 2006 and the Institute of Botany, Beijing China in 2011. Prof Ayodele belongs to other professional bodies such as the Botanical Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Field Society and African Ethnobotany Network among others. He has participated in a number of Environmental Impact Assessments and Audit in many parts of Nigeria serving as a Consultant on Vegetation to different companies.
Prof Abiodun E. Ayodele is a Fellow of the Linnaean Society, London and the Science Association of Nigeria. He is married with children.
